 …tonight it was Spaghetti Bolognese

Quick Spaghetti Bolognese
Serves 4-6 (depending on how hungry you are!)

I’ve made spaghetti bolognese with the traditional way (i.e., no bottled sauce) and it is very good, but this is a good shortcut that still produces a nice pot of sauce.

1 1/4 pound ground beef (80/20)
1 slice of bacon, diced
1/2 onion, finely diced
1 carrot, shredded
2 clove garlic, diced
1 teaspoon italian seasoning
1/2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 jar favorite pasta sauce (I used Wegman’s Parmesan Romano pasta sauce)
1/4 cup red (or white, but not sweet) wine
1 tablespoon salted butter
Salt and pepper to taste
1 tablespoon olive oil
Spaghetti rigati

  • In medium sized pot, add olive oil to pan and fry bacon, once fat from bacon has rendered add onions and carrots and cook until soft, about 5-7 minutes
  • Add garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes
  • Add ground beef, italian seasoning, salt and pepper to pan and cook until well browned
  • Add jar of pasta sauce, Worcestershire sauce and wine, cook for 5 minutes add butter and allow sauce cook for 15 minutes or so for the flavors blend.
  • Cook spaghetti noodles according to package
